Honestly? A bit. Most people describe it as similar to a rubber band snapping quickly against the skin -- intense for a split second, then it's over. Sessions are very short (often just a few minutes for smaller tattoos), and we use cooling techniques to keep discomfort as low as possible. Most people find it very tolerable.
On average, most tattoos require 5--10 sessions for significant to complete removal, spaced 6--8 weeks apart. Factors like tattoo age, ink colors, size, depth, and your immune health all affect the timeline. Amateur tattoos typically fade faster than professional ones. During your consultation, we'll give you a realistic estimate based on your specific tattoo.
In many cases, yes -- especially for black and dark-colored tattoos. Some tattoos, particularly those with certain ink colors (light blues, greens, and yellows can be stubborn), may fade significantly but not disappear 100%. We'll set realistic expectations at your consultation so you know what "success" looks like for your specific tattoo.
Properly performed laser tattoo removal has a very low risk of scarring. Following aftercare instructions is key -- avoid picking or peeling treated skin, keep the area protected from the sun, and moisturize as directed. If the original tattoo was placed over a scar, that scar may still be visible after the ink is removed.
Keep the treated area clean and moisturized. Avoid sun exposure and tanning for several weeks post-treatment. Don't pick at blistering or peeling skin -- that's your body doing its job. We'll send you home with full written aftercare instructions after every session.
