The Myers Cocktail is the most requested IV drip at our clinic -- and for good reason. It's versatile, well-tolerated, and covers a wide range of what people actually come in looking for: more energy, better recovery, immune support, and just feeling like themselves again.
But a lot of people don't actually know what's in it. The name sounds like a happy hour drink order, not a medical treatment. So here's a straight breakdown of every ingredient, what it does, and who it's most useful for.
A Brief History
The Myers Cocktail was developed in the 1970s by Dr. John Myers, a physician in Baltimore who used IV nutrient therapy to treat a range of chronic conditions. His original formula included magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, and Vitamin C -- and that core formula is still the basis for what most clinics offer today, including ours.
What's in the Myers Cocktail?
Our Myers Cocktail includes these core ingredients in a saline base:
Normal Saline (Fluid Base)
The carrier for everything else. Rehydrates directly into the bloodstream -- faster than drinking water.
B-Complex
B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6. Support energy metabolism, nerve function, and stress response.
Vitamin B12
Supports red blood cell production, neurological function, and energy. Often low in people who feel chronically tired.
Vitamin C
Antioxidant and immune support. IV delivery allows for much higher absorption than oral supplements.
Magnesium
Involved in 300+ enzymatic reactions. Helps with muscle function, sleep, headaches, and stress regulation.
Calcium
Supports bone density, muscle contractions, and nerve signaling.
Why IV Instead of Oral Supplements?
This is the question I get asked most. The answer comes down to absorption. When you take an oral supplement, it has to survive your digestive system before anything gets into your bloodstream -- and depending on your gut health, stress levels, and what else is in your stomach, you might absorb a fraction of what the label says.
IV delivery bypasses all of that. The nutrients go directly into your bloodstream, which means 100% bioavailability. For something like Vitamin C, this is especially significant -- oral doses over a few grams typically cause GI distress before they can be absorbed, but IV allows for much higher concentrations without that problem.
Who Is the Myers Cocktail For?
The honest answer is: a lot of people. It's one of the most broadly applicable treatments we offer because the ingredients address such common deficiencies. It tends to be a good fit for:
- People who are chronically tired and want to rule out nutritional deficiency as a contributing factor
- Anyone recovering from illness -- cold, flu, infection -- and wants to bounce back faster
- Athletes doing heavy training who want faster recovery and better performance
- People with high stress or poor sleep -- magnesium and B vitamins both play a role in nervous system regulation
- Anyone who travels frequently or has had a rough week and just wants to reset
- Migraine sufferers -- magnesium in particular has solid evidence for migraine prevention and relief
It is not a cure or a treatment for any specific condition. If you have a diagnosed medical condition driving your fatigue or other symptoms, we'll discuss that as part of your intake. IV therapy is a supportive tool, not a replacement for medical care.
What Does a Session Feel Like?
Most people are pleasantly surprised by how easy it is. You check in, get settled in a comfortable chair, and a small IV line goes into your arm -- same process as any blood draw, just staying in a bit longer. The drip takes about 30-45 minutes depending on your infusion rate.
Some people feel a slight coolness or mild flush as the drip runs -- that's normal and typically mild. Most patients leave feeling noticeably more energized, clearer-headed, and hydrated. Some notice the full benefit the next day.
How Much Does It Cost?
The Myers Cocktail is our Level 1 drip and starts at $150. You can also add on individual ingredients like Glutathione, NAD+, Vitamin D, anti-nausea medication (Zofran), or Toradol for $30-40 each if you want to tailor the drip to specific goals.

How Often Should You Get One?
It depends entirely on why you're getting it. For general wellness and energy support, once a month is a reasonable maintenance cadence for many people. If you're recovering from illness, managing a specific issue, or doing heavy athletic training, more frequent sessions might make sense. We'll talk through that with you based on your goals.
Want to try one? Same-day and next-day appointments are typically available at our Bedford, TX clinic. Book online or give us a call and we'll get you in.
